MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- When Madison's Jerry Kelly tees it up this weekend at the PGA Champions Tour Cologuard Classic in Tucson, Arizona he's playing with a purpose -- as an ambassador for Exact Sciences and the tournament, he's urging fans and people to get screened and increase colon cancer awareness.
"The problem is, is that everybody's got a friend who's been affected by it," Madison native and PGA Champions Tour player Jerry Kelly says. "It's the second leading killer among men and women in the cancer in the U.S."
Kelly will again be playing the Cologuard Classic in memory of longtime friend and University of Wisconsin hockey captain Rob Andringa, who passed away from colon cancer at the age of 51.
"It's the 60 million that we haven't gotten to, that we need to keep shouting it so they don't end up like our buddy, Rob," Kelly says. "I pass by his picture every single day that I'm home. And I say something to him every single day. If you catch it early, it is extremely curable. If you catch it late, it's very deadly."
