Man accused in deadly crash appears in court as loved ones mourn woman killed
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Beatrice Brown is now mourning the loss of her 21-year-old daughter NicoleRay Brown.
“She had a heart out of this world,” Beatrice Brown said. “Just to know my baby’s smile and the love she had for her baby.”
Nicole was the passenger in a car driven by her 21-year-old boyfriend, Tyshawn Combs, on February 19. Their 5-month-old daughter Journee was also in the car with them.
The car crashed on Highway 145 near Silver Spring. Police say the car was going 107 mph just seconds before the crash with no signs of braking. Witnesses said the car appeared to be racing another car.
The crash killed Nicole, and Journee was ejected from the car in her car seat. Her grandma, Beatrice, said Journee suffered a brain bleed, a cracked skull, and swelling among other injuries.
Combs appeared in court Tuesday for his preliminary hearing. A Milwaukee County Deputy Sheriff testified during the hearing and Combs was bound over for trial.
Combs is charged with 1st-Degree Reckless Homicide, 1st-Degree Reckless Injury, Knowingly Operating While Suspended (Cause Death) and Knowingly Operating While Suspended (Causing Injury).
He is scheduled to be back in court March 13.
Beatrice Brown is now taking care of baby Journee and has started a fundraising page to help with medical costs and Journee’s future.
“I hate that this happened and I want him to suffer,” Brown said. “With this selfish act of his, Journee has no parent now.”
