WALWORTH CO, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The man accused of shooting and killing a young couple in an Elkhorn bar pleaded not guilty in court on Friday, March 8.

Thomas Routt appeared before a judge for his arrangement hearing, where he faces several charges including two counts of first-degree intentional homicide.

Routt pleaded not guilty to all of his charges including two counts of first-degree intentional homicide, attempted first-degree intentional homicide, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

The plea comes after Routt is accused of killing 37-year-old Gina Weingart and 33-year-old Emerson Weingart at an Elkhorn bar in February.

Routt appeared in Walworth County courtroom.

The 57-year-old said very little, his attorney appeared via Zoom for the second time.

Routt's attorney asked for this case to be moved to a jury trial, but before a trial can take place, Routt's attorney asked for a status hearing and time to review the evidence in Routt's case.

During Friday's hearing, the judge called for statements from the family of the victims of Routt's alleged crime.

Emerson Weingart's father, Jeff Weingart, came forward and addressed the judge asking for a speedy judicial process.

"I would like to respectfully request that this process moves along as expeditiously as possible without any delays," said Jeff Weingart.

CBS 58 did speak with Jeff Weingart off camera, he told us their family is still grieving and they want to be done with the court process as soon as possible.

Routt's next appearance in court will be April 16 for a status hearing.
