Man arrested, Waukesha police officers injured in domestic incident that prompted hours-long standoff
WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Waukesha Police say a 62-year-old man is in custody after barricading himself in a home for hours during a domestic violence incident.
Officials say it started at 12:55 p.m. on Sat., Oct. 5th, in the 300 block of S. Moreland Blvd. in Waukesha.
A caller stated to police that the suspect was threatening to kill and choke her, and that she escaped the residence, but the suspect followed her and attempted to run her over with his vehicle.
The caller then stated the suspect tried to get her into the vehicle but was unsuccessful.
Upon arrival, officers say the suspect was trying to flee the scene in his vehicle and disregarded officer's commands to surrender before barricading himself in the home.
At that time, additional resources were requested including the Waukesha Police Tactical Unit, Deployable Technology Unit, Crisis Negotiators, and the Waukesha Police K9 unit.
After approximately five hours of de-escalation tactics, CS gas was deployed into the residence to try and get the suspect to exit.
Police say after all options were exhausted, the K9 was sent into the home and apprehended the suspect in the basement.
The suspect was arrested and then taken to the Waukesha Memorial Hospital to get checked out.
Police say he will eventually be taken to the Waukesha County Jail on several domestic related charges.
The victim of the domestic incident sustained minor injuries, as well as two officers.
Officials say one officer sustained a minor calf injury, while the other sustained a minor injury to his knee.
