FOND DU LAC, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 52-year-old man is being charged in connection to a road rage incident, according to a release from the Fond du Lac County Sherrif's Office.

The incident occurred Tuesday, June 9, at approximately 10:50 p.m. along interstate 41 near Johnson Street. Officials say a driver in a pickup truck made hand gestures toward and began following a sedan. The driver of the sedan contacted the Fond du Lac Communications Center because of the behavior.

The sedan pulled into a Target parking lot in the city of Fond du Lac, at which time the pickup truck reportedly followed the sedan and parked nearby. According to the release, the driver of the pickup exited and was acting "erratically" towards the sedan driver, which resulted in the driver of the sedan indicating to the communication's center he feared for his family's safety. The sedan driver was instructed to separate themselves and travel to the Walmart parking lot close by.

The pickup continued to follow the sedan into the Walmart parking lot, according to the sheriff's office, where Fond du Lac deputies had arrived. A deputy activated his emergency lights in an attempt to separate the two cars, but the pickup reportedly continued to follow the sedan.

Deputies began to pursue the pickup eastbound on Scott Street when the driver allegedly accelerated rapidly in an attempt to flee. Per the release, the driver of the pickup reached speeds of 60 mph, ran through a stop sign, and maintained high speeds as he turned on a green light onto N. Peters Avenue.

The driver ultimately pulled into a Kwik Trip, where the sedan had traveled in an effort to escape the pickup. The Kwik Trip was advised to go on lockdown, and multiple deputies and officers from the Fond du Lac Police Department and North Fond du Lac Police Department initiated a high-risk traffic stop. The driver of the pickup truck was then taken into custody.

The pickup driver, from Waupaca, was charged with felony fleeing/eluding an officer, four counts of second degree recklessly endangering safety, and two counts of disorderly conduct.

No officers were injured during the incident.
