Wisconsin DNR LINN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- State environmental officials are monitoring a manure discharge that has entered a tributary flowing into Geneva Lake in Walworth County.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said staff responded Friday, March 6 after rain caused runoff from a recent manure application by Merry-Water Farms.
During a site visit, DNR officials observed manure running off farm fields near the intersection of S. Lakeshore Drive and Linn Road in the Town of Linn.
According to DNR, the runoff entered Geneva Lake through an unnamed tributary on the lake’s south end.
The DNR is advising people to avoid activities that could lead to swallowing water from the tributary or Geneva Lake in the affected area. Officials say staff are on site as the farm works to address the discharge.
