MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- On Marquette's campus Tuesday, a group of students held a protest in support of a teachers union.
Last year, school officials did not officially recognize a vote to unionize by College of Arts and Science faculty.
Students protesting say they want fair wages for their teachers.
"We want fair wages for our teachers, the teachers who give so much to us, give so much to this community and everything they work for. We're here to support them because what they do is phenomenal," said Marquette student Alex Salmon.
Last fall, Marquette released a statement explaining their decision to not recognize a union on campus, saying:
"Continuing our strong partnership with faculty and staff-without engaging an outside third party that may not share our same values- is the best way to deliver our Catholic, Jesuit mission and serve our students. We will continue to work directly with our colleagues as we become, together, the Marquette University we are called to be."
