Marquette University High School receives $100 million donation, largest ever to a Catholic high school in the US
Marquette University High School / Facebook MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Marquette University High School announced Tuesday, May 19 that it has received a $100 million joint estate commitment from two anonymous alumni donors, designated entirely for scholarships and financial aid.
The gift consists of two coordinated $50 million bequests and is described as the largest known philanthropic commitment to a single high school in Wisconsin history and the largest known donation ever to a Catholic high school in the United States, according to the school.
About half of MUHS students currently receive financial assistance beyond the school's automatic per-student grant. The school said the gift will help ensure economic circumstances do not prevent students from enrolling.
"Every year, I meet families across the Milwaukee area who wonder whether a Marquette High education is within reach," said John Meuler, director of admissions. "This allows us to answer that question with even greater confidence."
