May 2024 weather stats are in: Top 10 wettest and warmest

We are almost a full week into the month of June but the stats for May are now in. It's no surprise to anyone that it was a wet month. In fact the month saw 6.52" of rain which is almost exactly 3" above average and goes down as the ninth wettest May on record. Last year in May we started to see drought conditions with less than a full inch of rain during the month. This year almost the entire state is drought free.

We saw some up and down temps in May but overall the month was warm with an average temperature just over 60 degrees about three degrees above average and good enough to go down as a top ten warmest May on record. The warmest day of the month happened right in the middle on May 12th when we hit 84 degrees but surprisingly the coldest days of the month were right at the very end when we dipped into the lower half of the 40s on the 30th and 31st.

Not only was May warm and wet, but we also had a ton of severe weather. The number of confirmed tornadoes across the state last month nearly tied the record of 24 set back in 1988. The current number for 2024 sits at 22 and there's a slim chance another one could be added if new information comes in on damage.

Now that we are in the month of June the temperatures warm fast. After an average high starting in the low 70s it's already reached 74 degrees. The average lows during the month of June go from the low 40s to the low 60s. On average, June is the wettest month of the year with over 4" of rain so we will need another wet month to stay at average.
