May starts wet as a slightly dry and cool April comes to an end
Happy May! The new month is here and it is starting wet. Steady moderate, and at times heavy, rain is currently falling across all of southeast Wisconsin Thursday morning. The steady rain should end from south to north from 9-11 AM then a few scattered showers will be possible the rest of Thursday afternoon. Thursday evening might dry out for a bit but a few isolated showers are possible Thursday night and Friday.

The soaker for May 1st could have been used in April. The month of April ended over an inch below average on rainfall. Total rain for the month was 2.72".
At the beginning of April we did get just a touch of snow with a tenth of an inch falling on April 7th. That was the only snow of a month that typically averages 2.1" of snow. It was the least amount of snow during April since 2017 when we didn't have any snow.
Temperatures during April saw some warmer days and colder days but overall it was cooler than average with an average temperature of 45.4 degrees which is almost a full degree below average.
Now we are in the month of May when we warm nicely during the month with average highs going from 61 to 72 and lows rising ten degrees from 43 to 53. May averages a little less rain than April with just over 3.50" of precipitation. The month does not average any snowfall but it's not unheard of to see snow during the month.
