Mayor Johnson signs ordinance approving 2% sales tax increase in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Mayor Cavalier Johnson made Milwaukee's new 2% sales tax official Friday, July 14. 

"Each and every single one of us, we've accomplished something huge, something major, something extraordinary for our city," Mayor Johnson said. 

The mayor signed the ordinance at the Mitchell Street Library. 

The Common Council approved the new tax by a 12-3 vote on Tuesday. 

The new tax is projected to take effect at the start of next year.
