A boost in temperatures despite the lack of sunshine
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Freezing temperatures across the area aren’t stopping one Milwaukee program from delivering food to those in need.
Meals on Wheels of Milwaukee County makes sure the elderly have fresh meals five days a week.
“People who don’t do this don’t realize how many people are at home, homebound and need our assistance," Meals on Wheels dispatcher and driver Pat Sprung said.
Sprung has been involved with the program for 27 years and has made special bonds along the way.
“It means a lot to them, sometimes we’re the only ones they see all day long,” she said.
93-year-old Ruth Simos is one of Sprung’s friends and one of the recipients who has a hard time leaving home, especially during the winter.
“I don’t go out in winter if I don’t have to,” Simos said. "I'm really glad I don't have to cook, it's hard for me to stand."
To qualify for the program, recipients must be over 60-years-old and homebound. Meals on Wheels delivers 1,400 meals to residents across the Milwaukee area every day.
