OZAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Four months after a cat was found badly burned in Racine, the Wisconsin Humane Society reports remarkable improvement. Tonight, a closer look at his story while a local brewery hosts a fundraiser for animal welfare.

Meet Anaheim, a now playful one-year-old.

"He is just a champion, and everybody loves him. He has won the hearts of everybody on our staff," said Stacy Oatman, media coordinator with the Wisconsin Humane Society.

But back in February, a good Samaritan found Anaheim in Racine close to death.

"His injuries, his wounds were so severe that at one point we thought he might lose both of his legs. We weren't sure that Anaheim was even gonna make it," said Oatman.

Vets at the Wisconsin Human Society fought hard to save Anaheim whose file including details on several surgeries and bandage changes, is now 63 pages long.

"It's' believed that he was suffering from chemical burns over a third of his body. His paws, specifically his front and his back right legs were severely burned. His head had a lot of burns on it as well. He was in really rough shape," said Oatman.

Stacy Oatman says the Wisconsin Humane Society cares for animals regularly with respiratory infections and broken limbs.

The Wisconsin Humane Society serves some 40,000 animals every year including two-month-old Miles Davis who is ready to go home.

And they're not government funded. So, donations are really important.

"I just think it's a great idea and I wish more places would do something like this for the Humane Society," said Mary Pat Thompson, Teddy's Mom.

"Yappy Hour" at Foxtown Brewing in Mequon is raising funds for the Wisconsin Humane Society. Mary Pat Thompson adopted five year old doodle Teddy after he spent his first two years with a different family.

"Well, he's really enjoying all of the sights and sounds and smells of tonight," said Thompson.

Dogs are on the patio this Thursday night where the food and the beer are flowing, both human treats and dog treats.

"It is very heart warming and they're all getting along having fun, playing and eating snacks together, that's all you can really ask for and it's human snacks and dogs get their own snacks? Yeah, and dog beers," said Brittany Maynard, Events Manager with Fromm Family Pet Food.

Brittany Maynard says they hope to raise a thousand dollars on this night. Foxtown's next Yappy Hour will be in July.
