Messmer Sophomore Destiny Weaver already in 1,000-point club
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It was a shot, of a lifetime...or was it?
"It was like a normal game," Messmer Guard Destiny Weaver said. "Of course we were struggling. But like, it still felt, it was an accomplishment. A big accomplishment for me. But it was normal."
Destiny Weaver, just a sophomore, scored her thousandth point for Messmer High School.
CBS 58's Lance Allan asked, "Did you think you could get there as quick as what you did?"
"Yeah, I did," Destiny Weaver said.
"Because, why?" Allan asked.
"Because like, it's like the pride and like the confidence I have for myself," Weaver said. "Especially when I step on the court? It's a totally different thing. Like everything just blanks out. And I'm just hoopin'."
So, when she was honored by her dad and her team before a recent game? The emotion poured out.
"I love them. Like, they like, they're like my second family. Second home type," Weaver said.
Weaver doesn't have any specific offers yet, but she's been confident in her ability for years.
"When I was young, like it started when I was young," Weaver said. "I've been playing basketball since I was two or three."
Allan asked "Do you think as you get better, and as maybe more milestones pass, that people are going to reach out to you?
"Yeah," Weaver said.
No doubt?
"No doubt," Weaver said emphatically.
Weaver honors her mom, who passed away last year, with staying humble. And listed at 5'7", she won't back down.
"I play like I'm a big," Weaver said. "Like I could play, I feel like I could play all around."
