Milwaukee baker starts from scratch after car stolen with baking supplies inside
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The victim of a car theft has a message for the person who stole her car.
That message will be projected in big, bold letters on the side of her house near 31st and Michigan Tuesday night.
It reads: "There is a better way. Work hard and trust people."
Love took her passion to profession after graduating from culinary school and starting her own dessert business called Caked with Love.
"I was on the right path. Everything was going smooth and then I just got hit with a huge hurdle," Love said.
Love's 2019 Hyundai Tucson was stolen while she was moving into her new apartment.
"It was the perfect car for me, and somebody took it away," Love said.
Love said the police found her car in her neighborhood with what appeared to be minimal damage, but her insurance company told her it was a total loss.
"It had about $15,000 worth of damage to the undercarriage and steering column," Love said.
The loss extends beyond her car.
"They took everything out of my car," Love said.
Inside was about $2,500 worth of baking supplies.
"The good quality supplies were not cheap. So, it took me years to build it up, build up my collection to that point," Love said.
Love is starting over from scratch and putting the growth of her business on the back burner until she can replace her car and supplies.
"I was hoping that this would be the summer that I could really get my home baking business off the ground. My intention is to one day have a storefront, but this sets me back probably a good year or so," Love said.
Although Love doesn't know who stole her car, she said she's hoping they realize the impact their actions have on others.
"I wish the people in this world found more value in themselves and in other people," Love said.
The message also includes a link to a GoFundMe page started to help Love buy a new car and new baking supplies.
