Milwaukee Ballet to present 'Sleeping Beauty' for first time since 2008

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Ballet will stage "Sleeping Beauty" at the Marcus Performing Arts Center, marking the first time the company has performed the ballet since 2008.

Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. on April 11, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on April 12 and 2 p.m. on April 13.

The production will feature Milwaukee native Jennifer Hackbarth in the role of Princess Aurora. Hackbarth, an alumna of Milwaukee Ballet School & Academy, has performed internationally with New York City Ballet, Dresden Semperoper Ballet in Germany and Sarasota Ballet.

Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra will accompany the performance with Tchaikovsky’s score. The cast includes more than 50 dancers from the professional company, Second Company and Milwaukee Ballet School & Academy.

A student matinee on Friday, April 11, will provide discounted access for more than 1,500 students across Wisconsin. The company has also partnered with Versiti Blood Center for a Sleeping Beauty-themed blood drive at Baumgartner Center for Dance on March 21, offering donors a buy-one-get-one ticket voucher.
