Milwaukee County authorities confirmed Sunday that the man accused of firing a weapon while at Potawatomi Hotel and Casino was found dead earlier that morning inside of his jail cell.
The cause of death is still unknown.
At 1:36 a.m. a correctional officer found 38-year-old Terrill Thomas unresponsive in his jail cell, according to a press release.
Thomas showed no visible signs of trauma but was not breathing. Officers and nursing staff tried to resuscitate him but at 1:57 a.m. Thomas would be pronounced dead, according to a press release.
Court records show Thomas was being held on multiple charges related to an April 14th shooting at Potawatomi Hotel and Casino.
According to a criminal complaint, Thomas fired up to six shots at a group of people visiting the casino - seriously injuring one person. He was arrested soon after.
Following this death Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke requested City of Milwaukee police handle the death investigation to avoid a conflict of interest. Autopsy results are also expected within the next week.
Thomas's relatives were at his family home Sunday evening and asked for privacy during their mourning.
