Milwaukee County Parks looks to redesign pools, splash pad at Washington Park
Milwaukee County Parks MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee County Parks is looking to design a new splash pad at Washington Park, and they're seeking a qualified consultant team to lead the project.
Washington Park was constructed in the early 1960s, and the swimming and wading pools have not been fully operational since 2019 due to ongoing maintenance challenges.
The proposed project will be planned in the same location of the park and include demolition of the existing pools, along with the design of an expanded, super splash pad. New features include multi-level play structures, slides, water cannons, and spray features.
“This is an exciting step forward in reimagining Washington Park’s aquatics area for future generations,” said Guy Smith, Milwaukee County Parks Executive Director. “We are committed to creating a space that reflects community needs, improves accessibility, and provides a safe, engaging, and modern water experience for families across Milwaukee County.”
Milwaukee County Parks is looking for input on the proposed project. Milwaukee County Parks’ Community Engagement team in partnership with Rooted & Rising will host a public input meeting on Thursday, May 21 from 5:30-7:00 p.m., at the Washington Park Senior Center, inviting residents to share their ideas, preferences, and priorities for this space.
“We want this to be a space that truly belongs to the community,” said Tony Giron, Milwaukee County Parks Community Engagement Manager. “By working with partners like Rooted & Rising and hosting public engagement opportunities, we are making sure the final design is informed by the people who know Washington Park best.”
Milwaukee County Parks will also evaluate whether the existing small splash pad is able to remain open through construction to support community needs while the new amenity is built.
