‘We’re hanging in there’: Summerfest adjusting to the heat
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Monday was swearing in day for the county board at the Milwaukee County Courthouse, and after the ceremony, there was a photo-op featuring a special dress code for the day.
Board members, department heads, and staff were all invited to pose in their denim clothing in the courthouse rotunda. It was a look ahead to Denim Day, coming up a week from Wednesday.
Denim Day is an international observance where denim is worn to show support for survivors of sexual violence.
County Supervisor Sky Z. Capriolo wrote a resolution two years ago which led to this show of support for Denim Day.
"This was something that we did together, as women, to support each other and to celebrate that we had historically always been underrepresented on the board," Capriolo said. "And now we are actually over 50 - 50%, and it was just a really nice thing that we could do together as a group of women."
Denim Day is observed on the last Wednesday in April.
