MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It's been 17 years since FBI Special Agent Jay Balchunas was killed in the line of duty.
A special task force was dedicated in his name at the FBI headquarters in St. Francis Monday, May 10.
"The fact that people are still remembering him and now will on a daily basis, I mean it's just a really special thing for the family," said Jay's brother, Dan Balchunas.
Jay Balchunas' brother and parents were on hand Monday as a ribbon-cutting was held for the FBI officer task force suite that will carry the family name.
Balchunas was working undercover with a drug task force in Milwaukee in 2004 when he was shot and killed.
His mother sees Monday's ceremony as more than a tribute to one agent.
"Jay was one person doing great work, but he was one person out of 600,000 fulltime law enforcement officers in this country who are doing good work every single day, putting their lives on the line," said Jay's mother, Mary Kay Balchunas. "And I just want everyone to remember that."
The ceremony marks the start of National Police Week, honoring officers past and present.
