2 dead after 2 separate incidents in Delavan Lake
DELAVAN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- On Saturday, July 5, Delavan police say they responded to two separate possible drownings.
A 26-year-old man drowned in Delavan Lake and his body was recovered near the View Crest area, according to Delavan police. The man’s body was pulled from the water after about five hours of search efforts.
Delavan Chief of Police Stefanie Adams said that dive teams from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Natural Resources assisted in the operation.
Rescue crews were seen moving what appeared to be the man’s body from a boat to an ambulance around 7:30 p.m.
“We have a beautiful area to enjoy, and we want everyone to enjoy that area, but we want to enjoy it safely. The use of personal flotation devices, PFD's, we need that to happen in order to prevent incidents like this from occurring,” Adams said.
The man’s name has not been released as the drowning remains under investigation.
At around 11:36 a.m. the Town of Delavan Police and Fire Department was first called to another possible drowning along South Shore Dr.
They found an unresponsive 57-year-old man from LaGrange Park, Illinois on a boat. Despite lifesaving measures from officers, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
"We offer our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this tragedy," said law enforcement in a press release.
The incident is under investigation, but no foul play is suspected. The name of the man is being withheld at this time.
