MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee's fire chief, Aaron Lipski, did a little reading and rhyming Friday for third-graders at the Next Door Foundation's 29th Street campus Friday.
It's part of Next Door's month-long Read for Children campaign.
The idea is to encourage kids to read, but Chief Lipski has another motive as well.
"You know, we always try to work in just a little thread of fire safety any time we interact with young children," Chief Lipski said. "And it has played itself out that that locks in with a kid."
Mayor Cavalier Johnson did a reading session early this week, and anyone can volunteer to read to the kids.
