Milwaukee leaders meet with crash victims, families and share city's progress to curb reckless driving
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- In Milwaukee, getting rid of reckless driving has been top of mind for city leaders for years. On Monday, Nov. 10, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson and city leaders met with victims and their families to highlight their stories and the progress that has been made.
The city has added more security cameras, a new ticketing system for unlicensed drivers, and better paramedic practices for blood delivery at the scene.
Mayor Johnson gave community members a call to action.
"Recognize that when you are partaking in the privilege of driving, and that's exactly what it is, that it's not just to get you from point A to point B. You have a responsibility for everyone around you," Mayor Johnson said.
There is some good news: based on data from the last few years, Milwaukee traffic deaths have gone down 7% from 2023 to 2024, and the city is on track to keep that trend going into 2025.
There will be an event supporting the families on Saturday, Nov. 15 organized by the Coalition for Safe Driving MKE. More information can be found below:
