Milwaukee man who fatally shot friend while 'playing' with gun sentenced to 10 months in jail

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee man was sentenced to 10 months in jail Tuesday, after pleading guilty to second degree reckless homicide.

Nineteen-year-old Jovon Young-Smith was charged in May, in connection to a fatal shooting at a home near 28th and Concordia.

Young-Smith told investigators that his friend was in the bedroom "playing with a firearm" when Young-Smith walked in and asked for the weapon. He stated that he started to "play" with the gun, pointing it directly at 17-year-old Levaughn Morris and pulling the trigger.

Young-Smith told police he didn't know the gun was loaded and didn't check before firing.
