Milwaukee officials: 17-year-old charged with fatally shooting 18-year-old friend

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 17-year-old has been criminally charged in connection with a shooting that left an 18-year-old dead. 

The shooting happened Jan. 9, inside a residence near 60th and Sheridan. The victim, Christopher Carter Jr., was transported to a hospital where he died. 

According to a criminal complaint the victim was from Texas, and he had been staying with his friend, Jaden Jenkins-Delane, in Milwaukee. 

Investigators say the two were in an upstairs bedroom when Jenkins-Delane told officials he was cleaning a round from a handgun when it went off -- striking Carter in the pelvis. 

Jenkins-Delane and his mother transported Carter to the hospital. While on the way, Jenkins-Delane admitted he threw the gun out of the car window. 

Jenkins-Delane has been charged as an adult with the following:

  • Homicide by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon
  • Possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under 18 

He's scheduled to make a court appearance Jan. 14.
