MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Police Association (MPA) has officially endorsed the Donald Trump and Sen. JD Vance presidential campaign.

The announcement came Friday morning at the MPA's building, where the GOP VP nominee spoke to dozens of supporters, marking his second time in Wisconsin this month.

“I don’t think there’s any doubt that we’re going to win this race, but we’ve got to run the campaign, we’ve got to get out there and talk to people," Sen. Vance said. "That’s what we’re doing every single day.”

Many in the room held political signs, applauding loudly after he answered questions from both local and national media outlets.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever felt safer in such an incredible stressful and high intensity environment," Sen. Vance said, referencing the Republican National Convention which was held in Milwaukee. "There were obviously a lot of protesters, a lot of people around. You guys did an incredible job, so thank you for what you do.”

Some of the topics included illegal immigration, crime levels, the opioid and fentanyl crisis, and the support of local law enforcement.

“We just want American leadership to empower law enforcement, to enforce the laws, it’s going to make us all safer when we do that," Sen. Vance said. “How can you have a country, how can you have an American dream, how can you have poor children who look to the future with optimism and hope if they can’t walk down the street to their neighborhood safely?”

Last week, the senator spoke in Eau Claire.

Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to hold a rally at Fiserv Forum Tuesday, ahead of the speeches that night at the Democratic National Convention.
