Milwaukee police officer charged in fraud case
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee police officer is on administrative duty after she was accused of defrauding the city of thousands of dollars.
Patricia Swayka, 32, is facing charges of defrauding the city of $3,755.
According to a criminal complaint, between 2016 and 2019, Swayka received grants from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), while also receiving tuition reimbursement from the city of Milwaukee to pay the same amounts.
Officials say Swayka already had most of her tuition costs covered and paid for by other means, but still applied for the grants through the city anyway.
The city says it would not have given out those reimbursements if it had known Swayka's tuition was mostly paid for and she never told anyone.
Swayka is currently on administrative duty pending the outcome of the open investigation.
