Thousands of Brewers fans pay tribute to Bob Uecker at Celebration of Life
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Thousands of people made their way to American Family Field Sunday, Aug. 23, to honor Mr. Baseball himself, Bob Uecker.
Uecker was the voice of the Brewers for more than five decades as a beloved broadcaster. He's being remembered as the "heart and soul of Wisconsin."
"I listened to him growing up, swimming in the backyard," said Brewers fan Kim Ciamciola. "The radio was always on. It was always Bob Uecker."
Bob Uecker was a cherished part of the franchise, connecting with fans through his humor and wisdom.
"Watching my dad work in the garden, having the radio propped up in the apple tree, me throwing the baseball to the pitch net. Every weekend," Brewers fan Brian Bashynski said. “Always having that voice in the background. It’s just weird not having him there anymore.”
Fans came to American Family Field dressed for a star-studded pregame ceremony that recognized Uecker's passion for the game on and off the field. The concourse was filled with his sportscoats, many from appearances on late night talk shows and other Hollywood highlights.
With the Brewers on a significant streak of wins this season, fans can't help but feel that the broadcast legend is smiling down on the team.
"He's giving us a good season to have and cheer for," said Jane Meier, a Brewers fan. "I hope everyone's happy. We need to do it for Uecker."
