Milwaukee Public Museum to change its name and logo in new space

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Public Museum (MPM) announced Tuesday, May 6 it will change its name and adopt a new logo when it opens its doors to its new home at the corner of Sixth Street and McKinley Avenue.
The new museum will be called "The Nature & Culture Museum of Wisconsin."
According to a news release, the museum will continue to care for and display the Milwaukee County collections and carry forward MPM's mission to preserve and protect the exhibits, educational programs, collections and research.
“This is a very exciting time for our institution. Our new museum’s name, the Nature & Culture Museum of Wisconsin, honors the work we’ve been doing for nearly 150 years—sharing the intertwined stories of our natural world and the diverse cultures that shape it,” said MPM President & CEO Dr. Ellen Censky. “Our longstanding mission will continue to ring true through the Nature & Culture Museum of Wisconsin’s galleries as we invite in guests from across Wisconsin and beyond to celebrate and spark curiosity about our shared history, all in one space.”
The news release says the new name highlights its shared statewide natural and cultural history and identity, which will be showcased throughout the exhibits and reflected in the building’s design.
The new logo, according to the release, will represent both the museum's exterior shape and the rock formations at Mill Bluff State Park in central Wisconsin that served as design inspiration.
The museum's primary and secondary color palette selections are drawn from the natural landscapes of Wisconsin and the global artifacts and specimens found in MPM’s collections. The colors are formally identified as red ocher, Wisconsin waters, Northwoods green, spring green and limestone.
The Nature & Culture Museum of Wisconsin is set to open in downtown Milwaukee in 2027.
