MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Repertory Theater's production of "Come From Away," has broken the all-time sales record on the mainstage -- surpassing "A Christmas Carol" to become the highest grossing show in the theater's history. 

"Come From Away," which opened Nov. 4, tells the true story of nearly 7,000 airline passengers from all over the world who were grounded in the small Canadian town of Gander during the wake of 9/11. 

The production is the first performance in the Milwaukee Rep's new building. 

According to a news release, the production of "Come From Away" has grossed $1.55 million in ticket sales. 

“Surpassing A Christmas Carol as our all-time best-selling production is a remarkable milestone,” said Chad Bauman, Ellen & Joe Checota Executive Director. “It speaks not only to the power of Come From Away’s story of kindness and community, but also to the excitement surrounding Milwaukee Rep’s new Associated Bank Theater Center. This is a moment of pride for our organization and for Milwaukee audiences who have embraced this show so wholeheartedly.”
