Milwaukee teen charged after allegedly firing gun at officers through door, punching inmate in jail

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 17-year-old Milwaukee boy, Lucas Galarza, is facing multiple charges after two separate incidents in the same week, according to criminal complaints filed in Milwaukee County.

Officers and firefighters were called to a home on N. Holton St. on Thursday, Sept. 18 for reports of an animal bite and concerns about Galarza's behavior. Family told officials he had barricaded himself in an upstairs unit of a duplex with two dogs that had been violent in the past.

When responders tried to make contact, they reportedly heard barking inside the unit. Moments later, a gunshot came through the closed door at chest height, missing two officers on the stairs.

The criminal complaint says that Galarza surrendered minutes later with visible scratches on his hands and neck. Inside the unit, investigators reported finding dog cages, cat litter and feces spread across clothing, beds and furniture.

The Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission subsequently reported removing 34 animals from the home, specifying that they were in "deplorable conditions." MADACC then made a call to the public to adopt animals to make room for the influx of animals from the home.

Police say that they found a revolver and other ammunition.

The criminal complaint charges him with two counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, possession of a weapon by someone under 18 and use of a dangerous weapon.

Two days later, on Saturday, Sept. 20, Galarza was accused of assaulting another inmate at the Milwaukee County Jail. Officers reported that while seated on a bench in the prebooking area, he suddenly punched another inmate in the face, causing bleeding from the nose.

For that incident, he is charged with battery by prisoners.
