MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police have referred charges for a Milwaukee woman who had her child in the backseat when she hit a light pole early Tuesday morning.
Police say the 1-year-old girl was not in a car seat when her mother crashed near 27th and Burleigh just after midnight. Surveillance video shows the car hit a pole and spun out of control. Witnesses tell CBS 58 News the baby had to be pulled out of a window. Police say the baby was seriously hurt and was sent to the hospital.
Earlier this month, a car crashed into Chicago Sub, a business that is also on the corner of 27th and Burleigh. Employees at a barbershop also located on the corner said that a car crashed into their business last summer.
"They just ended up crashing into the shop as we were working," said Natumba Pasha who works at the barbershop.
People in the area believe something needs to change before more people get hurt.
"The community, we need to come together and stop all this reckless driving and gun violence and all these things," Pasha said.
The mother could face criminal charges.
