Milwaukeeans prepare for 2nd snowstorm this week
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Crews in Milwaukee are getting ready for another round of winter weather just as people will be driving home or headed to their Valentine’s Day plans.
Milwaukee's Department of Public Works says crews started pre-treating the streets with brine ahead of the storm and they weren’t the only ones getting ready.
Right before snow is set to hit the ground, Tommy Davis finds himself busier than usual at the Ace Hardware in Wauwatosa.
“This is a heavy, a heavier wet snow coming in this weekend,” said Davis, who is the assistant manager. “Oh my gosh. I don’t keep a count, but the volume of people coming in, I have refilled our little shaker of salt over and over and over again.”
Davis says business ramps up after the city of Milwaukee and surrounding communities declare a snow emergency.
Because a snow emergency has been declared, alternate side parking rules are in effect for side streets. DPW says it issued 2,801 citations and towed 12 vehicles overnight.
“Gonna freeze everything, it’s gonna be ice, and that’s where it becomes dangerous for everybody,” said Davis. “Now our salt is depleting, but we’re in good shape for this weekend. We’re also planning ahead.”
This next round of winter weather will add several more inches of snow to what Milwaukee already got on Wednesday and residents are replenishing their supplies.
“I’ve lived in Wisconsin long enough that I’m not surprised when we get snow any month,” said Dan Katanese, a resident buying snow supplies.
Katanese says stock up while you can, because being prepared will keep you and others around you safe.
“Pay attention, stay off your phone and make sure your tires are ready for Wisconsin winter,” said Katanese.
