MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Warning Basketball League is celebrating its 50th season this summer. Later in June, the league will kick off its season at Meaux Park on Milwaukee's north side.

The Pat Connaughton Foundation recently donated $200,000 to the Milwaukee Parks Foundation and Milwaukee County Parks to revitalize the park's basketball courts.

The donation's aim is to cover the cost of upgrades, including new asphalt, bleachers, rims, nets, backboards and improved fencing.

In a recent press release announcing the donation, former Warning League player and current league director Donta Holmes said that the impact of the league goes far beyond merely playing basketball.

"These coaches act as mentors, guiding youth through some of their toughest moments in life. Additionally, players have the opportunity to participate in weekly groups off-season that are aimed at providing character development and leadership skills."

A celebratory opening ceremony will be held before the league's first game this summer. The Warning Summer Basketball League's 50th season starts on Monday, June 24 at 5 p.m.
