More showers and storms possible Wednesday after long track derecho missed Wisconsin to the south Tuesday

Wisconsin dodged a big bullet Tuesday with widespread severe weather including wind gusts over 100 mph and multiple tornadoes just to our south across parts of Iowa, Illinois and Indiana. Some of the strongest winds were reported in Chicago's south suburbs and parts of NW Indiana where widespread wind damage was reported with measured wind gusts close to 100 mph. 

This storm complex started in NE Iowa and continued for hundreds of miles. This has already been determined to be a derecho which needs severe wind gusts of at least 240 miles. Severe wind gusts on Tuesday stretched as far as the Carolinas reaching at least 850 miles!

Locally, we did see some heavy rain in Walworth County with a stronger storm. Rain totals there reached 0.50-1.50". The rest of southeast Wisconsin saw much less with a quarter inch around Kenosha County but most of southeast Wisconsin seeing a tenth of an inch of rain or less. 

Wednesday has another chance for some scattered showers and storms. The chance is not likely and some areas could stay dry Wednesday but the best timing for any rain will be from the late morning through the late afternoon. 

An isolated stronger storm cannot be completely ruled out near the IL border but the better chance for strong to severe storms will stay to our south across Iowa, Illinois and Indiana.

After the chance for showers on Wednesday, more showers and isolated storms will be possible on Thursday. Once again, some areas could stay dry. The rain chance for Friday is not good enough for the 7-day forecast yet, but also is not 0%.
