MPD welcomes 55 new recruits in graduating class

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Police Department is expanding its force.

They welcomed a new graduating class of recruits today, on Oct. 20.

A graduation ceremony for the new recruits was held at the Milwaukee Police Academy today.

City and law enforcement officials spoke at the ceremony, congratulating the graduates and thanking them for making the commitment to protect and serve the community.

"I offer my congratulations and appreciation to this class, for your willingness to step up, for your willingness to serve. I know your families are proud of you, and they should be," said Mayor Cavalier Johnson.

"This overflowing of support in this room. This is reflective of the community support of our fine, noble men and women of the badge. I really, truly, thank you all," said Chief Jeffrey Norman.

There were a total of 55 recruits in today's graduating class.
