Multiple school districts in SE Wisconsin to close for weeks over coronavirus concerns

WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Gov. Tony Evers announced Friday, March 13, public and private schools will close across the state, due to coronavirus (COVID-19).

GLENDALE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Multiple school districts in southeast Wisconsin will close beginning Monday, March 16, amid the coronavirus outbreak. 

The school districts include Brown Deer, Cedarburg, Fox Point-Bayside, Germantown, Glendale-River Hills, Grafton, Maple Dale-Indian Hill, Mequon-Thiensville, Nicolet Union High School, Northern Ozaukee, Port Washington, Shorewood, and Whitefish Bay.

According to a news release from Maple Dale-Indian Hill School District, individual school districts will communicate their plans for the official date when classes will resume. Any further adjustments to school calendars will be handled by individual school districts, each of which are reaching out to families with additional details today.

This closure is in line with The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for school districts and is supported by the North Shore and Washington Ozaukee Public Health Departments to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in our communities.

"The health of our students, staff, families, communities and most vulnerable is of utmost importance and closing school is a measure we can take to support efforts to reduce the impact of COVID-19," the news release said.

School will tentatively resume April 13. 

MPS, Kenosha Unified and Racine Unified School Districts will close on March 16. 

The West Allis-West Milwaukee School District will move to online learning from March 17-April 13.

Franklin Public Schools will close March 16 through at least March 29.

Greendale Schools will be closed from March 16-April 3.

The Cudahy School District will close campuses March 16, and remain closed until April 10. The school district said it's their intent classes will resume on April 14. 

Saint Sebastian School campus will close from March 16-March 27.

The School District of Waukesha has canceled face-to-face classes for students from March 16-20. 

Muskego/Norway Public School District will be closed March 16-20.
