MVP Salute to Youth event earns over $1M for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee returned to tradition after a four-year hiatus, hosting their MVP Salute to Youth event on Monday, May 22 at the Wisconsin Center.

The organization reported seeing record attendance, with a Tuesday, May 23 press release noting more than 500 guests gathered to honor those who have contributed significantly to the organization.

The MVP Salute to Youth event serves as an annual celebration, honoring youth, individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the BGCGM.

Monday's event was particularly significant, as it raised over $1 million, setting a new fundraising record for the organization.

Keith Mardak, renowned for his leadership roles in various Milwaukee businesses, was awarded the MVP Award for his exceptional community involvement and decades of service to the children of Milwaukee. Mardak has been an active member of the BGCGM Board of Trustees for nearly 30 years.

The event featured several other awards, including the following that were highlighted by BGCGM in their press release:

  • Thelma Sias was awarded the Annabell Cook Whitcomb Award, an honor reserved for a friend of the Clubs who embodies Annabell Cook Whitcomb’s spirit and energy.
  • Jason Allen earned the Irving J. Seher Award, given to a BGCGM alumnus who exemplifies the organization's mission.
  • Mia Moore was named the 2023 Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee Youth of the Year, the top honor of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America's premier recognition program for members aged 14-18.
  • Children’s Wisconsin received the Fred F. Loock Memorial Award, an honor bestowed upon an outstanding corporation or organization dedicated to helping youth achieve richer and fuller lives.

The primary aim of BGCGM is to provide safe spaces, mentorship, academic support, leadership training, career readiness and college preparation for children and teenagers in the Milwaukee community.
