Charges filed: New Berlin man accused of homicide in death of Texas man
GRAFTON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A New Berlin man has been formally charged in the homicide of a Texas man found dead in Grafton.
Miguel Aponte, 34, was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 26 in Milwaukee.
The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office had been investigating the death of Laeng Sanvongsay, who was found dead in a vehicle near County Highway C in Grafton back in March.
According to a criminal complaint, DNA from the vehicle was a match to Aponte in the national database of DNA profiles. Officials say those results came in on Sept. 13.
On Sept. 26, Aponte was taken into custody.
During an interview, according to the complaint, Aponte originally denied knowing the victim but after being shown a photograph of the victim, Aponte later admitted to being with him and others on the night of the homicide -- but denied being present for the homicide.
Aponte, according to the complaint, denied ever being in the victim's car.
Aponte is charged with first-degree intentional homicide (as a party to a crime), attempting to disfigure a corpse (party to a crime), false imprisonment (party to a crime) and bail jumping.
Cash bond was set at $750,000.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 25.
