New Marquette poll shows support for law abiding immigrants to have work permits in US
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- As the Trump Administration continues to crack down on immigration laws, local leaders and business owners are highlighting a national poll showing strong public support for allowing some immigrants to work legally.
A recent Marquette Law School poll finds that more than 70% of Americans favor a law that would give work permits to immigrants living in the United States illegally.
This is only if they've lived here at least five years, have jobs and have no criminal record.
Immigration advocates gathered at City Hall Thursday, Dec. 11, saying immigrants are critical to Wisconsin's workforce and local economies.
"In a state with low population growth like ours or aging temperatures like ours, a stable workforce is essential to be competitive," said Chief Strategy Officer, Dr. Nelson Soler.
Other advocates in attendance include Common Council President Jose Perez and Third Coast Hospitality CEO Sam Sanchez.
