New sign unveiled at Milwaukee's Grand Avenue Club
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- An organization that's been in Milwaukee for more than three decades is getting a makeover, or at least the outside of their building is.
The Grand Avenue Club is a nonprofit with a mission to provide resources to adults experiencing mental illness.
A new chapter for Milwaukee's Grand Avenue Club as they unveil a brand-new signage on the outside of their building.
At 210 East Michigan, Grand Avenue Club is housed in a historic building in downtown Milwaukee, and they haven't had a new look in about 30 years.
"There's been some bumps in the road getting to the new sign, we've done a lot to rebrand and change our identity," said Phillip Connelly, executive director with Grand Avenue Club.
Connelly says the old sign has been there since the 90's.
"For years, the sign out there was a way for adults struggling with mental illness to find our doors and to allow us to provide support to them but every time, there comes renewal," said Connelly.
While the new sign is a cosmetic change, it marks a new era of dedication to the community.
"We're center that helps individuals with mental illness find opportunities for employment, enrichment, and education," said Connelly.
Grand Avenue Club was founded in 1991. The clubhouse model is one of the things that makes this place unique.
They offer those living with mental illness opportunities for employment, education, housing and referrals to medical and mental health services. It is also a strong community environment among the members there.
"This new sign is going to remind us of how far we've come and where we want to go in the future," said Connelly.
