Details announced for the 10th annual Mayor’s Masked Ball fundraiser
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Friday, July 24, is recognized as "Milwaukee Strong Day." Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett proclaimed the day to recognize all the good that comes out of the city, including its heroes.
A new song and music video called "Milwaukee Strong" debuted; it was created by local Milwaukee performers including Shonn Hinton, Ray Nitti, Sista Strings, and many more to honor the day.
Hinton says the song was to keep people's spirits up in light of recent events, including the COVID-19 pandemic and with the death of George Floyd.
"My heart was hurting, my community was hurting and my city was hurting. We needed encouragement and in a real way. The song came from that place," said Hinton.
To honor the project, local artist Ken Brown created "The Hero in You" mural to salute the city's essential health care workers on the front lines at MacArthur Square.
