MILWAUKEE (CBS58) -- If you ask a Wisconsinite what they're doing on a day like this, there's a couple of right answers.

The first snowfall of the season means parents and kids are taking advantage of the weather.

"We’re trying to sprinkle snow from the top of the hill down there, so it goes faster," said 12-year-old Emmett Gazeley -- a sledder at Dewey Hill.

There's some slipping and sliding involved on these hills.

“When I woke up my brother saw it was snowing and he was super excited. I was happy to try out my new sled I got for Christmas,” said 10-year-old Brianna Hoffman.

For Milwaukee, the excitement has been a long time coming.

"Yeah, the first snowfall of the season is always so much fun. My six-year-old got up this morning, he was super excited to come outside and play in the snow. It’s always a fun time of year," said parent Rachel Greenly.

The snow isn't the only thing to admire at Dewey Hill. There are memories, too. 33-year-old Abigail Martin has come to the ground every winter since she was a kid. Now, her kids do the same.

“Having children here makes me feel old, but I’m really glad that this hill is still here and it’s still kind of the neighborhood spot everybody comes and gathers," said Martin.

For parent Rachel Greenly, the snowfall has always been about spending time with family.

“I remember like so many fun outdoor, snow adventures. My dad was great at building huge igloos and so, we would always have really fun snow forts," said Greenly.

Some new memories are being made, too.

“I like building snow forts and having, like, snowball fights and stuff with my brother," said Gazely.

It's not a snow day by Wisconsin's standards, but for these families, it's one to remember.
