‘Once in a lifetime’: Harlem Globetrotters in Milwaukee for 100 year tour
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) - The Harlem Globetrotters stopped in Milwaukee on Friday night, making their way through the 100 year anniversary tour.
The Globetrotters have played in Milwaukee on New Year’s Eve since the 1960s, but with the Bucks playing on New Year’s Eve this year, the performance was moved to the day after Christmas.
“You got to see this, once in a lifetime, so we’re here,” fan Jim Ballman said. “I feel like they’re family, they feel like friends right here.”
The game was more than just a basketball game, featuring songs, performances, dunks, and the players interacting with the crowd.
Lawrenda Smith Jr. was at the game with her husband and son, Osaze.
“We thought it would be something fun to do, especially because it’s so hard to find stuff for the kids to do on Christmas break,” Smith Jr. said.
The trio found themselves right in the action on Friday night, when a Globetrotter got in the crowd and took their popcorn, and returned with a bag of popcorn minutes later.
“It’s awesome, we’re like the 3 musketeers and we do everything together,” Smith Jr. said. “I’m just super excited to be able to provide him with these opportunities and just give him memories.”
