Opening Day: Brewers take on Cubs at Wrigley Field
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It's an annual rite of spring -- Opening Day across Major League Baseball.
The Brewers are beginning the new season on the road against a division rival.
Somehow, Opening Day still isn't a national holiday, but there's that excitement in the crisp March air at Wrigley Field as the Brewers prepare for first pitch.
The Crew took the field to get settled and ready for the opener, and fans have started to trickle in too.
The Brewers are looking to get back to the playoffs after their four-year playoff streak was snapped last season.
The lineup is about what you'd expect: Christian Yelich leading off, Willy Adames third, and Corbin Burnes on the mound.
"The excitement of the season is here, and every Opening Day is a special day," said Brewers Manager Craig Counsell. "That's why we spend so much time on what is the roster."
"I'm going out there," said Burnes. "I got a job to do, that job is to execute as many pitches as I can and hopefully give the team the chance to win."
While Burnes downplays Opening Day a bit, there's a no doubt it means the world to rookie Brice Turang. He showed up Thursday in a full suit.
He'll start the season playing second base and batting ninth.
