GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- It was also a matter of when, not if, the Green Bay Packers and quarterback Jordan Love would agree on a new deal. That time has come.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Love has signed a new 4-year contract for $220 million at an average salary of $55 million per season, matching him for the highest average annual value in the NFL. This contract includes $155 million guaranteed and a $75 million signing bonus.

"This position is the most important position on our football team. Having that secure and having a guy that you feel can play at a high level. that you feel can win games is really really important," said Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst. "Nothing really starts until you have that. We do."

"I'm very grateful that the Packers believe in me and are putting that faith in me," said Love at a press conference on Saturday, after the Packers announced the deal. "Something that I felt important to be able to go out there and put out my best. Be my best every day. come in here to work hard to be able to prove these guys right."

Love was attending training camp practice and team meetings, but not participating until the new deal was signed.

The 25-year-old was entering the final season of a short extension he signed last year. In 2023 Love threw for 4,159 passing yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. That included an eight-game stretch in the second half of the season where Love threw for 2,150 yards, 18 touchdowns to only one interception. He finished second in the NFL in passing touchdowns and seventh in passing yards.

"I been with the Packers putting in the work in the shadows, in the background. being out there at practice every day just trying to work on my craft and learn. Obviously was blessed and fortunate to be behind one of the best to ever do it. Learned so much through my time with Aaron and kinda just played the waiting game. There were so many questions going into last year, I just had to go out there with my team and be the best player I could be," said Love.

"The thing that's so impressive about is just how resilient he is. Never gets fazed. Just continues to fight and I think that says a lot about him. and I think that's a big reason why we are standing here today talking about him," said Packers head coach Matt LaFleur. "It's awesome to see him get reward for that."

Love led the Packers to the postseason as a seven seed and became the youngest team in the NFL since the 1970 merger to win a playoff game, 48-32 over the Dallas Cowboys in the wild card round. He and the Packers then fell short in the NFC divisional round 24-21 to the San Francisco 49ers.

Love had some fun with the deal saying he'll have some good Christmas gifts on the way and maybe the price of his upcoming wedding went up. His teammates were happy for him as well.

"You know we all was just clowning him a little bit. Just really happy for him. Him getting paid. we call him big money and all those kinds of things. from now on all the dinners is on you," said Packers running back Josh Jacobs.

"I couldn't been more excited for him. Obviously, I knew it was coming. When it happens, it hits a little bit different. Just happy for him and myself to have him back out there and obviously the rest of the team," said Packers wide receiver Christian Watson.
