Packers Jordan Love misses practice on Wednesday
GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- As if this week wasn’t going to be challenging enough for the Green Bay Packers facing the NFC North leading Detroit Lions, they now have to wait and see with their starting quarterback.
Jordan Love strained his groin in the first quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars and did not finish the game.
"Definitely feeling better. Everyday I think there will be some improvements to it," said Love.
"He's moving around better, again we'll take it one day at a time," said Packers head coach Matt LaFleur. "I know he wants to play. We'll see where he's at by the end of the week."
Love did not practice on Wednesday, and it is a possibility he doesn't practice all week. LaFleur did say on Wednesday he could potentially play without practicing.
The Packers have the bye week coming up in Week 10. Love says regardless of that, he wants to do everything he can to be out there against the Lions.
"We'll monitor it. But obviously a big division game coming up so going to do all I can to get back for it," said Love.
Love has dealt with several injuries this season after a very healthy 2023 already missing two games this season and now having to deal with another injury.
"It's definitely frustrating, it's not ideal. You wish could go through a season, be healthy bounce back every week. But things pop up. Control what you can control. Do my best try and get through the week, do my best during treatment and get myself ready," said Love.
During the portion of practice open to the media, Love was only seen working out on the exercise bike. If he can't play, the Packers know they can turn to Malik Willis. He's already 2-0 stepping in as a starter and helped the Packers beat the Jaguars this past Sunday, 30-27.
"I've been there as a backup. We always say you're one play away and you never know when that play is going to come. He's done a great job just staying ready, staying dialed in through the week and the gameplan," said Love.
"He's got a good understanding of what we're trying to get accomplished. Of the techniques and the fundamentals," said LaFleur. "He's done a really nice job."
"I'm just taking it each day at a time whatever they want to install and make sure I'm locked in and handle it the best that I can. Make sure I'm going home studying and seeing what they're seeing. What they feel like the expectation of the play should be and understanding the outcome they want," said Packers quarterback Malik Willis.
Including Love, seven players did not practice Wednesday. Running back Josh Jacobs; offensive lineman Josh Myers, Elgton Jenkins, Rasheed Walker; cornerback Jaire Alexander and safety Evan Williams were also off to the side.
However, LaFleur told reporters that linebacker Quay Walker has cleared concussion protocol, and he will start on Sunday against the Lions.
