Parents finding ways to keep children cool and entertained in extreme hot weather
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Parents found ways to keep their children cool and busy as Milwaukee weather hit over 100 degrees on Wednesday, Aug. 23.
Parents like Damarcuas Turner thought ahead of the hot day and brought his little ones to one of several splashpads in the city.
"I won't want my kids to be bored I want them to go have fun in the sun. That's the thing, fun in the sun," said Turner.
With Milwaukee Public schools closed due to the heat, daycare owners stepped up to help parents out, just like Raney Bradley.
"I'm bringing them to the water park letting them get the cool water on their body. Having gallons of water that's been in the freezer for them to drink," said Bradley.
Splashpads located at Berrien Park and Dineen Park opened to the public at 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Other families decided to escape the heat indoors choosing the movie theaters as a remedy for the extreme warmth outside for a couple of hours.
"If you're looking to do something in the area that's indoors there's lots of fun things but this is something you can do especially with like a family and stuff," said Micah Johnson, who was babysitting her 6-year-old sister.
Milwaukee Public Schools announced their doors will be closed Aug.24. due to the excessive heat warning in Milwaukee County.
According to Milwaukee County Parks, these locations will invite the public to splashpads, and waders open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Berrien Park Splashpad, Dineen Park Splashpad, Hales Corners Park Wader, and Mitchell Park Wader.
