Police: Men posing as We Energies employees steal cash from couple's home in Mt. Pleasant

MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Authorities are investigating a burglary that occurred Wednesday, Oct. 6 near Larchmont and Green Bay Road in the village of Mount Pleasant.

Police responded to the home of an older couple just before 8 p.m., who reported that men had arrived at their residence posing as We Energies employees.

They were wearing work clothing and had face masks on. The men indicated that they were there to check the trees' interference with power lines.

The couple challenged the men as to where their ID badges were, and the men stated that they were subcontractors with Asplundh.

Police say when the couple was in the backyard with one man, the other was going through their property and stole approximately $400 in cash.

Mount Pleasant police reached out to We Energies and confirmed no employees from them, or subcontractors, were in the area.

The department wants to remind citizens not to let anyone in your home without proper identification.

If there are any questions or suspicions, reach out to the business the person claims to be associated with or contact the police for an officer to respond.
