Potawatomi Casino Hotel CEO calls on Evers to sign bill legalizing online sports betting
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- As Governor Evers weighs whether to sign a bill legalizing online sports betting, the operator of Wisconsin's biggest sportsbook is making its pitch.
The CEO of Potawatomi Casino Hotel says legalizing online sports betting would be a boost for both Wisconsin and the state's tribes.
Last week, the Senate passed a bill allowing online sports betting as long as bets are made through a server on tribal land.
Critics question whether online betting should be open to outside companies as well as Wisconsin tribes.
Potawatomi CEO Dominic Ortiz says by limiting it to tribes, more of the money would stay in Wisconsin.
"I would tell him to just give a chance and listen to what all the tribes are saying, and I think when you do, you'll be on their side and see that this is a win for all tribes and the state of Wisconsin," Ortiz said.
Gov. Evers told reporters last week he will not sign the bill unless all 11 tribes with a gaming compact are in agreement. He says right now, that's not the case.
